Microsoft’s detailed analysis of the Octo Tempest group, known by various aliases such as Scattered Spider, Oktapus, and UNC3944, reveals their involvement in several high-profile ransomware attacks on prominent companies. These ransomware groups employ a wide array of sophisticated techniques, from advanced social engineering to SIM-swapping attacks. In extreme cases, they’ve even threatened violence to procure corporate credentials. A unique characteristic of Octo Tempest is their association with the BlackCat ransomware gang, usually inclined towards Russian-speaking affiliates.
